Playmaker by L.P. Dover is the third standalone romance in her Breakaway hockey series. While each book stands alone with different characters and their own HEA, the timeline is sequential and would be better enjoyed reading order, but it isn't necessary.Playmaker is told in dual POV between Maddox, cousin to Callie and sister to Dallas, both of whom we met in the last book, Blocked.
What we didn't know much about was the history that these two characters already have between them. Over two years ago they met in Vegas, spent a wonderful week or so together, got married and then the next day she split, taking the rings, the marriage license and even her real name with her. I spent a lot of time slightly aggravated with Lacey. This is often the trouble with dual POV books, we know how genuine the Hero is being but the heroine may not have a clue. I believe this was the case here.
Maddox was heartbroken and hasn't moved on, despite what he allowed the tabloids to think. Thanks to his money and a really good PI he found his wife but left her alone to finish medical school. Without a definitive plan for the future he finds himself out of town when Lacey shows up in North Carolina and turns out to be Dallas' sister. She isn't ready to trust him, thanks to the misleading tabloid photos and he is ready to give up on everything.
An emotional journey dealing with feelings of betrayal and resentment that works through them and eventually finds love and forgiveness. Well-written and well-paced. Can't wait for more - Maybe Justin's book next? Enjoy!

Playmaker A Breakaway Novel eBook LP Dover Reviews
Honeslty, I'm not a big fan of second chance romance, because most of the time reasons for couples separation isn't something I'm happy about. And here we have this situation. Lacey made me to be a bit dissapointed in her. She let her fears to rule her actions and she never gave Maddox a chance. A chance for theirs relationship to grow. She run. And when we are at the present, she gave him a hard time. Like he was the one who messed up. I kept wondering, if she ever thought how Maddox felt on that morning? If she ever thought of, if it was switched, how she would had felt?
Of course, I don't say that Maddox reaction was right. That it only made it worse. But then again, he didn't know Lacey reasons to leave.
And talking about Maddox. I have a huge respect for Maddox. No matter how fast or hard Lacey run, he always chased her. He always fought for her. I'm not sure if in his place I would do that. With Lacey it's seemed constants one step forward and two steps back. Maddox was a saint with his patience and his love for Lacey was endless. That was what made this story so special. Maddox and his wonderful personality.
In all, I really enjoy this series. I'm not sure what it is for sure but they are addicting. Playmaker is another great addition. And I'm looking forward for next book.
Yummy, can I get a Maddox… please? Hot, Sexy, Steamy read; 5 stars!! Please read Blocked before reading this. You really need the back story with Dallas/Callie/Lacey/Maddox to understand what’s going on in this story.
From Blocked, we know that Lacey and Maddox have a past and can almost guess what they did while they were in Vegas. Lacey doesn’t think he remembers her and boy oh boy does he remember her and all they did. Maddox tracked her down using a PI since she used her middle name during their time together.During Dallas and Callie’s wedding, things come to a head and they have to start to work through the past and get to a good place now.
While I want to spill all there is to know about the book, I won’t spoil it for anyone. Just know that the two still want each other, Lacey thinks Maddox is still a player like all hockey Gods and he thinks she doesn’t want him. Both couldn’t be more wrong. Toss in Maddox’s overbearing father, other issues from his past and Lacey’s willingness to love him despite not wanting to and you have one hell of a book that I’ve already read twice (yes, it’s that good).
We do get our HEA at the end with some good surprises for them as well as for Dallas/Callie.
I can’t say enough good about this book. It was one that I was waiting for and wasn’t disappointment. Way to knock it out of the park LP! I can always count on you for one awesome read. Lets hope that there are more books with this wonderful hockey team and group of characters.

I was thrilled to see Maddox and Lacey story. You saw a bit of it in her brothers story. You figured out or got a hint that they were secretly married. I love s this was a reconnecting and second chance at love story. I'm glad Maddox conforted her and let her know he knew. I wasn't happy it was at Callie's wedding but glad it happened. I hope Justin get his HEA, and not with the fake bimbo he is stuck with for a year. Dang...so many trust issues but I understand where Lacey is coming from. Poor Callie was stuck in the middle between her best friend and cousin. Then again, poor Maddox because of her douche of a father. I loved how he was so determined to have her trust him. He turned out to be a really awesome guy. I loved how Lacey thought her stomach bug was that and a false pregnancy. You knew from the smells ot wasn't just a bug. Miranda and Laura....girl he doesn't want you. All those ploys she did and thr last one got Lacey upset. Gah! I didn't like Those two. Dang, can't Braeden anf Moddox be civil? Those two needed to be locked in a room together. Those two women rubbed me the wrong way. I hope the hint that Sophia and Braeden will end up together. I'm glad Maddox made amends with his father. That was great to see. Them finally telling Dallas and his parents took forever but glad it happened. This book was great and I enjoyed it a lot. It surprised me in many ways but it was a great book!
